Step 1

Crumble the fresh yeast into the warm water and stir well until completely dissolved. In a bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, vinegar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and knead well for 5-10 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
2 Step 2

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead again by hand. Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape them into balls. Preheat the oven to 250°C (480°F). Place the dough balls on a baking sheet and brush with milk or water. Use a sharp knife to cut crosses into the tops of the buns.
3 Step 3

Place the baking sheet in the oven (middle rack) and quickly pour 3 tablespoons of water onto the bottom of the oven. Close the oven door quickly. Bake the buns for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
